Orthodoxy and orthopraxy are good ideas (and practices) in theory, but so is the tooth fairy. When it comes down to it, they don’t exist. Though we are most certainly called to chase after the perfection of love, we also must realize that perfect love is impossible for anything other than a perfect being. (That being–being Christ, of course). So what are we to do with ‘Right thinking’ and ‘Right living’?
Cartoon by Dave Walker.
Chase after it! Even if it wears you out. Even if it breaks your heart. Even if the deeper you dig and the higher you climb the more you realize how far you have yet to go, chase after it. Be the reforming church instead of the reformed church. If you want to know how, just go love as you have been loved. If you don’t feel loved, drop me a message and I’ll let you in on God’s little secret. And remember–never forget–that we will never get it all right; we have only just begun to realize God’s consuming love.
