I am slowly making my way through “The Shaping of Things to Come: Innovation and Mission for the 21st-Century Church” by Michael Frost and Alan Hirsch. I would love to read it a hundred times faster, but I can’t get through more than a few pages before I have to put it down and process it… chew on it a while.
EmergingChurch.info has a quick summary, and Len, on nextreformation.com, has written an excellent review. (note to self: learn how to review a book like Len Hjalmarson) I will not even begin to try to recreate what Len has written, so please visit his site for a wonderful in depth introduction/overview of the book. However, I want to share the few broad ideas which have most affected my understanding of mission and ministry. Incidentally, I only need to list the headings of the major sections of the book:
Attractional vs Incarnational Ecclesiology
Dualistic vs Messianic Spirituality
Hierarchical vs Apostolic Leadership | see 1
As I talk more about these subjects, I will add links to this page.
